College Visits

I was listening to the radio on the way home from campus today and heard that less and less high school students are visiting colleges across the country. Researchers say this is due to the higher oil prices and the expenses of traveling. To get students to check out campuses, some schools are doing video interviews and tours of schools through the use of cameras. I thought this was really cool, especially for people who are tight on money. When I really got to thinking about it though, it really takes away the personal aspects of it. I know I came here because of how it felt to be on campus, this feeling is completely lost when tours are done online.

  1. I agree Kirt about it taking away the personal aspects of it. Lots of colleges look great on their websites but it's much different in person. Perhaps with all of this technology we are losing a lot of personal aspects with other things too! I know just like you I visited a few colleges and although they sounded nice and looked nice in pictures they were much different in person. College is a place that you want to feel comfortable at especially because it's most peoples first time away from their parents.

  2. Again, the need for balance when technology is so much a factor in our lives. On the one hand, anyone can access all kinds of information about the university, walk across campus, hear lectures, and more. You are right, K, how do we balance that with meeting real people, seeing real places, and getting a feel for what a university is all about?
